First 70.3 Of The Year

This weekend marks the first triathlon of the year for me.  It will be a 70.3 distance race. It will be the HITS Triathlon Series in Ocala.  I believe my swimming and running are up to par but I am a little unsure of my biking.  This is strange because biking is usually my strong (or at least my most confident) part of any triathlon.

Since losing all that weight last year I just don't have power I use to have on the bike.  I really need to get back to the gym and lift some weights.  It is just a time issue.  I have no time.

This year our Rotary president fought a losing battle with leukemia. The president elect took over the position but had to resign early due to some personal issue.  That left me taking over the president position two years ahead of schedule.  It also leaves me with a year and a half as president instead of the normal one year term.  Between running the club, working full time, family and training I just have no time left and very little gas left in my tank.

Mentally I am preparing myself for the FULL Ironman FL in 2014.  Bonnie signed us up to volunteer this year which means I will more than likely sign up for the race while volunteering.

Wish me luck this weekend!!

If you read this post do me a favor a post a comment.  I just want to see who is reading my posts.  I also would like to return the favor and read your blog.

  1. I can't believe you have a 70.3 already! Then again, I keep forgetting that you live in Florida where training is a bit more compatible. Here in KY it's still snowing. Last year it was so warm out by now. I have a 70.3 in 6 weeks and I'll have done most of my training on a trainer and on a treadmill. Kinda makes me laugh.

You're just getting warmed up so I'm sure you'll do great.

    1. Just a comparison the race temps were in the 80s to low 90s this weekend. Most races were from up north were they have not biked in several months.

The race cost was about $70 for the 70.3

  2. Just found you through "Catching my breath" blog, which I meandered to from "MCM Mama." Funny how you can get sidetracked...I'm attempting my first half-iron this year so I need all the info I can get...
Didn't know you could sign up for an IM from volunteering....food for thought....;)
    GOOD LUCK!!

  3. How did HITS go for you? We had several people from our club in Gainesville that raced on Sunday (sprint and Olympic distances). One who did the 70.3 on Saturday said over half the run course was on a soft dirt path?

Incidentally, just found your blogs and enjoyed reading your race recaps. I'm looking at IMFL 70.3 and appreciated your write up from last year.

    1. The race went great. I PRed. I will post a review of the race this week (stop by later in the week). The race cost was about $70 for the 70.3.

About half the race was on dirt. It was not bad at all.

      What club are you with?

  4. I hope to do a 70.3 some day! It seems like a huge goal for me still, but I continue to work on it each day! Someday I will get there!
