Coach, Team or Individual

Coach, Team or Individual
This week Bonnie joined a tri-team with a coach.  She is really excited.  She is the type of person who is motivated by a coach and must have someone lay out a training plan for her.  There is nothing wrong with that.  There are many people who need this type of guidance.
Now, I am the opposite.  I do not mind training by myself.  I also do not mind laying out my own training plan.  When I set a goal I will (and can) get it done with outside help.
What I do miss is a teacher to once in awhile spot check me and tell me what to tweak. It would be nice to have someone to show me when my form is incorrect or how to speed train instead of going long.  Generally the internet serves this purpose for me but I do miss someone observing me once in a while.
So what I guess I would like to have is a coach to do individual sessions only every once in a while to correct bad habits and form.  Being part of a team would be nice but not necessary.  I think I would enjoy that more just because I would have someone to socialize with.
How do you train?  With a coach, team, individual, etc?

  1. I have always trained alone.. frankly I can't afford a coach! I think it would be nice to have someone to bounce what's going on to, but I'm ok..

  2. For better or for worse I train alone though ever so often I would not mind somebody kicking my butt.

  3. I have a coach and we do some group runs and rides. I enjoy that but it still comes down to me being responsible for myself.

  4. I'm currently with Team in Training, and it's been nice in a group with a coach. I've gotten a lot of good advice and group workouts make me go harder, for some reason. Of course, when the event's over I'll go back to training on my own, since I can't afford to pay for coaching.

  5. I train with a team, and can't imagine training by myself for a big endurance event. I would over/under/incorrectly train or lose motivation.

  8. I have a coach but most of my training is done alone. It's good to have someone to bounce ideas off of and get a more informed (and experienced) opinion.

  9. I am a total loner when I train. I think it's because I find training so personal, I sometimes feel like I face my biggest demons out on the road, I don't know if i'd be able to conquer them as well with someone else there. (Is that super corny?) I do enjoy the casual run with friends or bike ride with the fella though.
