Miami Man 2012 - HIM Race #8

Sunday marked my 4th half Ironman race of the year.  It marks the 8th within the past two years.

Sorry I do not have pictures but my phone went dead the night before the race and I did not bring my phone charger.

My swim caps from this year and the last.

This race was a little unplanned.  Several months ago Triston wanted to do the International distance race so I signed him up.  I also said “what the heck” I will do the HIM distance since I will be there.

Well… Bonnie pointed out after I registered that the Miami Man race was ONLY TWO WEEKS after the Rev 3 70.3 Florida race I had already signed up for.  So much for recovery and taper time.  J

They mouse pad that was included in the HUGE swag bag.
There was also a beer pint, race shirt and water bottle.

The swim was not as nice as 2010.  The water in this lake is getter pretty nasty.  I think they are putting too much weed killer into the lake and all the dead plants are creating a debris layer.  It was not crystal clear like previous years.

The bike ride was a beast.  Winds were higher than last year and you had to fight them the whole way.
Race times are printed out for you the second you
finish the race.  VERY COOL!!

The run was a nightmare for me.  My legs clearly were not recovered from the last race.  They were locking up for the first 5 miles.  It was not a pleasant experience.  But I fought through the pain and finished the race.
Swim: 40:06
T1: 4:21
Bike: 3:03:21
T2: 4:43
Run: 2:31:21
Total Time: 6:24:15:76
Clearly this was not my best race but I had a great time.  My 70.3 race times are normally 5:50 – 6:10 but this race clearly not normal with only two weeks recovery.

I will not bore you with a review of the race.  See the review links below.  They are still valid.  This was a GREAT race and is EXTREMELY well run.  Year after year this is the best run triathlon!!

Run a FAKE 26.2 Race

Have you ever wanted to do a marathon without the training or EVEN running the race.   If so, here is the fake race for your.  For a small fee and without any training what-so-ever, you can now register for marathon, get a race program, race bid, race bracelet, 26.2 race sticker, race T-shirt and a custom time listed on a "major race website.".  You can even be a fake sponsor (but that does cost you money).

Hey, this is no so bad.  It's cheaper than the NYC marathon and like the NYCM you do not get to actually run.

See the kick starter program here.

70.3 in a hurricane.

Unluckily for me there is a hurricane in the Atlantic and I have a 70.3 in FL this weekend. Thankfully the race is On the gulf side. As of now tomorrow's winds are 20-30mph but they are suppose to drop to 10-15 on Sunday. Cross my fingers. I hate cycling in the wind.

Rev 3 FL 70.3 Just Days Away

I'm coming off four 80 hour work weeks, followed by a 1.5  week long cold.  Now in just a few days I have the Rev 3 FL 70.3.  Then two weeks after that race I have Miami Man 70.3.  I am going to be a very tired boy.

T-19 Days Till Rev3 Florida 70.3 & Weight Loss

T-19 Days Till Rev3 Florida 70.3 & Weight Loss

I have only 19 days left till Rev3 Florida 70.3.  I'm excited and a little scared.  For some reason my running times have been very low.  Its probably due to the extreme heat and humidity of the Florida summers.

I also went to the doctor yesterday for my normal checkup.  He actually gave he heck about my weight.  He told me to go gain 10 lbs.  I now weigh 168lbs. which is exactly the weight that I was in the early days of college.  I feel pretty good that I weight the same as I did 13-15 years ago.  Not to bad.  But I do feel I have lost too much muscle weigh.  I need to go back to hitting the weights a little more.

Anyone doing Rev 3 Florida?  What's your next race?

Ironman WORK - 165.8

I'm not sure what takes more out of you, long days at work or long races. I've done over 2 dozen half marathons, a Tough Mutter, and 6 half Ironman and nothing compares to the "endurance exercise" I did the past two weeks.

In the past two weeks I have racked over 165.8 hours at work.  I had one 19.5 hours day. My average day was about 14.5 hours long.  I got out of the house before anyone in the house moved and got home after the TEENAGER went to bed.

Pure Cuban Goodness

I consumed far more Cuban cortaditos than the human body should be made to endure.  For those of you who don’t know what a Cuban cortadito is let me explain.  If Starbuck’s espresso is a gateway drug than a Cuban cortadito is the heroin of espresso.  It’s espresso crack mixed with demerara sugar.  It is pure Cuban gold.  And I am addicted thanks to my Cuban friends.

Yummy Quesitos

I also ate way too many Puerto Rican quesitos.  Quesitos are puff pastry coded in sugary caramelized syrup, stuffed with cream cheese and baked.  They are what you need to request for your last meal on earth.

We eventually were told by our executive to NOT come in this weekend.  He told us that we had to have two days rest before we came back in to start it all over again.

Lack of sleep and huge amounts of brain activity does strange things to the human body.  It is very similar to doing LONG endurance exercises.  Your mind goes into auto mode.   You don’t think you just do.  You cannot sleep even when you have the time to sleep.  You cannot stop focusing on a goal of finishing the race at hand.  Pain and suffering is ignored and you just carry on through the pain.

Even while working this many hours I still was able to do all my weekday runs, swims and bike exercises but I was not able to do my weekend long run and bike ride though.

Oh what fun, this week I get to do it all over again!!  And I don't get a medal for it!!
