My work had a walking challenge where you had to monitor the number of steps you took every day for 43 days. They gave me a pedometer and had me record the number of steps everyday. I found the results interesting. Keep in mind I am training for a 70.3 half ironman during this time. This does not include biking or swimming.
In 43 days:
Total Steps Recorded: 530,137
Minimum Steps Per Day: 9,504
Goal Steps Per Day: 14,256
Average Steps Per Day: 12,329
Total Miles Walked: 251
Total Calories Burned: 31,185 (just running and waking)
That means I could have consumed (pick your poison):
155 KrispyKreme Glazed Donunts
57 Big Macs
42 Quarter Pound Cheese Burgers
62 Large French Fries
22 Big Mac Happy Meals
67 Egg Nog Lattes
This is not a lot considering I am training for a 70.3. Imagine if I was just a couch potato.
That is really interesting! I'm always amazed at how the couch potatoes complain when they have to walk a bit at work. So many people also refuse to climb stairs.
